Global Megacities and Frequent Floods: Correlation between Urban Expansion Patterns and Urban Flood Hazards

نویسندگان

چکیده

With climate change causing increased extreme weather events, megacities worldwide are experiencing unprecedentedly devastating floods and recurring flood damage. Investigating global megacities’ disposition to flooding will aid in developing sustainable flood-risk-management frameworks. Many studies have been conducted on the association between land-cover types consequences, but few investigating urban expansion patterns’ correlation with hazard risk. This study examines patterns hazards. Twelve throughout world were selected for this study. After exploring possibility of having experienced flooding, we qualified their potential influence elements Our results revealed that edge leapfrogging had a strong positive statistical significance hazard, while infilling weak showed no hazard. Further, found all past two decades. Flood risk frameworks need account impact these patterns, future planning designs policies incorporate expansion.

Climate-Related Hazards: A Method for Global Assessment of Urban and Rural Population Exposure to Cyclones, Droughts, and Floods

Global climate change (GCC) has led to increased focus on the occurrence of, and preparation for, climate-related extremes and hazards. Population exposure, the relative likelihood that a person in a given location was exposed to a given hazard event(s) in a given period of time, was the outcome for this analysis. Our objectives were to develop a method for estimating the population exposure at...

Flood hazards and masonry constructions: a probabilistic framework for damage, risk and resilience at urban scale

This paper deals with the failure risk of masonry constructions under the effect of floods. It is developed within a probabilistic framework, with loads and resistances considered as random variables. Two complementary approaches have been investigated for this purpose: – a global approach based on combined effects of several governing parameters with individual weighted contribution (material ...

Future urban land expansion and implications for global croplands.

Urban expansion often occurs on croplands. However, there is little scientific understanding of how global patterns of future urban expansion will affect the world's cultivated areas. Here, we combine spatially explicit projections of urban expansion with datasets on global croplands and crop yields. Our results show that urban expansion will result in a 1.8-2.4% loss of global croplands by 203...
